A wiki is a collection of web pages that can be instantly edited or modified by anyone that has access to it. A wiki site allows users to create and edit documents and/or pages within the wiki site almost immediately. A wiki supports the Web 2.0 idea of collaboration, as it allows users to work together to develop and discuss ideas.
I wondered where the word wiki came from, and did a little more research. In Hawaiian, the word "wiki" means "fast" or "quick," so I can see where wikis get their name. The creator of the first wiki site (WikiWikiWeb), Ward Cunningham, was in the Honolulu International Airport and took the Wiki Wiki Shuttle Bus. He realized that wiki was the Hawaiian word for quick, and used it in creating his website.

Welcome!
Welcome to my Web 2.0 Technologies blog. Over the next few weeks, I will be researching and posting about several different Web 2.0 Technologies, and how they can be used in the classroom. Feel free to comment and add your own ideas!
